Christina has always had an affinity for the arts. “Art has such a stronghold on me because of its inherent beauty it allows…the various forms of art permit individuals to experience a spectrum of emotion… joy, freedom, frustration, curiosity, despair, happiness etc.-core elements of the human existence. When an individual creates something whether it be in the form of music, dance or a painting, a piece of their soul usually is embedded in the effort. My hope is that my pieces project or stir an emotion within you. It is always a challenge to have the elements of drawing, value, color, & edges to harmonize concurrently as do all the instruments in a symphony. It is a challenge that I love. What I find most exhilarating, is when light of a subject is captured in a painting. Light to me gives the painting energy & life.” Painting almost daily, the hours that pass feel as though mere minutes have gone. It takes her back to her childhood. “I remember getting excited on the days Mrs. Hick’s, the elementary school art teacher would put the primary colors in their containers for us to begin our next project. Complete joy would bubble within.” Having a career outside of the art world for many years, her passion was reignited upon attendance of Tina Mayland’s workshop on Kiawah. Mostly self-taught, painting is now what Christina does & loves every moment.
